Voja Zanetic: The fakest of the fake news
Dear viewers, greetings from Tirana. I am here, outside the television studio, because I was just informed that a bomb had been found inside the Vicinities studio and that the episode is being interrupted right now, in order for anti-terrorist intervention units of the Albanian Police Force to enter the building and detonate the bomb. I was also told that in a few moments they will arrest the main suspect, Balkan columnist and terrorist Voja Zanetic. You are hearing this information because it’s a live transmission of fake news. I could have formulated the fake news differently. For example, I could have said that a bomb has been found in the studio I’m about to enter, but that it was a sex bomb, point to myself and define the incriminated object. It is now clear that it’s fake news and it is even faker than the previous one, which means that fake news have a gradation: small, medium, large and extra large fake news. What would be the fakest news in the world? When I thought about it, it didn’t take me long to come up with an answer, the biggest fake news in the world’s title is simultaneously its content – ‘Everything is ok’. In a world where very little is ok and every day we are coming closer to a moment in which nothing will be ok, the news that everything is ok is of course fake news, and the only possible faker news is quite similar – ‘It will all be ok’. When this news reaches the internet and it receives its final form, because the internet is where we mostly consume our news from, and its final form is a title which you can’t not click on when you see it. The title is: ‘Shocking! If you thought nothing was ok, here is why you were wrong!’ I dare you not to click.
